With reports currently suggesting that English Premier League side Liverpool have already sealed the signing of defender Ibrahima Konate from German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, it remains a huge question whether the English Premier League giants sealed themselves a good transfer deal or they have gotten themselves another liability in the team.

The Reds needed the services of a top central defender last season after losing the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries but they were not able to replace their two senior central defensive options, leaving them in a major injury crisis that they had to deal with till the end of the season. Van Dijk and Gomez were greatly missed at the heart of their defense and it affected their all-around performance this past campaign after almost missing out on a crucial top-four finish.

There have been talks and reports about Premier League giants Liverpool being in the market for new defensive signings ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window in recent weeks, and according to a latest report, it seems like the Reds have finally landed a major defender signing. Liverpool’s quest to sign a top central defender had seen them get linked to a number of targets in the past, including RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.

Konate’s teammate, Dayot Upamecano, who is also his central defender pairing, was a name on the Reds’ transfer shortlist but while Liverpool failed to act fast on convincing the French defender, he opted to sign for Bayern Munich instead, signaling his agreement to sign a five-year contract with the Bundesliga champions.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy is certain that his former team has two players who can save this season in its rank. Liverpool are under the spotlight after the recent poor run in all competitions especially in the league. Danny Murphy spoke to Talk Sports about Liverpool and their recent struggles to get results. According to him, club captain Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip are crucial to Reds saving their season from collapsing completely.

Danny Murphy has urged Reds boss JurgenKlopp to ensure that the duo of Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson are fit for the remainder of the season. Cameroonian defender Joel Matipis the only fit senior central defender at Liverpool at the moment and his fitness is crucial to the Reds as it allows club skipper Jordan Henderson to move into midfield to boost the Reds’ creativity. Eight Liverpool players are set to sit out the Champions League match with Ajax Amsterdam on Tuesday night. The Reds play hosts to the Dutch champions at Anfield on matchday five with the knowledge that a winwould take them to the next round of the competition. They were on course to qualify for the next stage ahead of the last matchday (matchday four) before the 2-0 loss to Atalanta derailed that plan with Josip Ilicic and club skipper Alejandro Gomez getting the goals for the Italians. The Reds would want to avoid the same mistake against Ajax Amsterdam and they have to this without eight of their first team players.

They come into the Ajax game on the back of the 1-1 drawat Brighton & Hove Albion in their league game at the weekend. Vice captain James Milner sustained a hamstring injury and was subbed off during that game. The veteran player will miss the Ajax match because of that injury. Liverpool’s Fixture List Could Be Favourable for Klopp, says Neville

Gary Neville is of the opinion that Liverpool are in a favourable position with regards to the title race because they have a favourable calendar. Since Manchester City are involved in several competitions going into the final few weeks of the season, manager Pep Guardiola will have a long list of matches especially in April. City are competing in competitions like the Champions League and FA Cup aside from the Premier League. Liverpool were able to return to the top of the table after a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday. City, meanwhile, have played a game less than the opposition.

Neville, who has been part of numerous title races during his time at Manchester United, claims that Liverpool will gain a lot of psychological boost as a result of the superior position in the table – even if it is largely down to having played more than their rivals. Even if Manchester City extend the wonderful record in other competitions, Liverpool may effectively play two more games than City by the end of next month. This can potentially provide the Reds with a six-point advantage that will be a blow for City – even if they know in hindsight that they have winnable fixtures in their hand.
