Liverpool have returned to the top of the table after a quite convincing 4-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday. This was one of the few tough matches left for the team in their quest for the first league title since 1990. However, the ease with which they dispatched Tottenham has left many wondering if this would be Liverpool’s time to bask in the glory. Brendan Rodgers certainly feels this way because after the match he fired a warning shot to the likes of Manchester city and Chelsea. He says that Liverpool will now be looking to win the title.
The former Swansea manager has downplayed Liverpool’s title hopes throughout this campaign, but he feels that the club have been showing enough confidence in the last few months to win the title. He also says that the support from fans has been brilliant as well. The fans will have a major role to play in the remainder of the campaign because Liverpool still have two home matches against Manchester City and Chelsea. Star striker Luis Suarez was once again in the goals, while the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson provided the necessary polish to the finish.
Liverpool are top of the table with six matches remaining, but City still have two matches in hand.
“There is no doubt they [City and Chelsea] understand this is going to be a real tough place to come. We love playing here and the support [against Spurs] was incredible – that’s as good as I’ve heard at Anfield since I’ve been here – and it’s only going to intensify. We respect Chelsea, they have a world-class manager and top players, and City are one of the new superpowers of European football, but we feel we can win any game,” said the Liverpool manager after the 4-0 win.
