EIGHT LIVERPOOL PLAYERS TO MISS GAME
Eight Liverpool players are set to sit out the Champions League match with Ajax Amsterdam on Tuesday night. The Reds play hosts to the Dutch champions at Anfield on matchday five with the knowledge that a winwould take them to the next round of the competition. They were on course to qualify for the next stage ahead of the last matchday (matchday four) before the 2-0 loss to Atalanta derailed that plan with Josip Ilicic and club skipper Alejandro Gomez getting the goals for the Italians. The Reds would want to avoid the same mistake against Ajax Amsterdam and they have to this without eight of their first team players.
They come into the Ajax game on the back of the 1-1 drawat Brighton & Hove Albion in their league game at the weekend. Vice captain James Milner sustained a hamstring injury and was subbed off during that game. The veteran player will miss the Ajax match because of that injury. The Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he is not worried about the fact that his team
has still not made it to the knockout round of the Champions League with just one group game to go.
Liverpool has walked into this season as the reigning Champions League champions, but their start to this season’s campaign wasn’t great as they were beaten by Napoli away in the first game itself.
The Reds, however, were able to resurrect their campaign with three consecutive wins in the next three games and they had a chance to book their spot in the Round of 16 by toppling the visiting Napoli yesterday, but they couldn’t get a desired result against Napoli at home either.
